I do not believe there should be limitations on abortions. In my personally beliefs the government should not tell a woman what she can and can not do with their bodies. If a female decides to have a baby the choice whether to keep it or not should be up to her and her alone. Who is the government to tell a female she can not have an abortion, or put restrictions on having abortions? What is next are they going to limit the amount of children a female can have like they do in China? Why stop at females what kind of laws they going to be put against men. With the Patriotic law and our government spying on us is that not enough why tell females about abortions. Did the Women’s movement of the 1970s mean nothing at all if men still are going to tell females what to do? I wonder what is next are they going to turn over the 19th Amendment that allows women to vote. The government has entirely to much power over our lives. The Supreme Court decision in Roe V. Wade made it possible for a woman to have an abortion. Prior to the decision many women were dying performing illegal abortions all because they could not have a legal one. Studies show that prior to Roe V. Wade they were many unwanted pregnancies in America. According to The New York Daily News article entitled “Do People agree with Abortion” a staggering 89% of people agree that the government should not put limits on abortions. Another poll shows that 1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child. According to the website The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform many women have abortions for life or death purposes. The government wants the citizens to believe they have abortions because it is legal and the women take advantage of that.
There are many facts, and data that argue women should have abortion no matter on what the circumstances are. According to Center for Bio-Ethical Reform an estimated 43% of all women will have at least 1 abortion by the time they are 45 years old. 47% of all abortions are performed on women who have had at least one previous abortion. That proves there are not many women who have abortions no matter what the government wants us to believe. Not even have of women who have an abortion go back a second time to have another. Usually women learn from their previous experience and are more careful the second time around. The other 47% of women who goes back to have another abortion properly went through with the procedure for medical reasons. The government is not taking into consideration that women also have abortions for medical reasons not because it is available. In a 7-to-2 decision, the justices in Roe v. Wade ensured that abortion would be legal in all 50 states. Still, getting an abortion in some states is difficult. Local laws, culture and politics create widely varying experiences for women seeking to end their pregnancies. That ruling and subsequent decisions prevent states from outlawing abortion except for late in pregnancy when a fetus can live outside of the womb, and then only if the mother’s physical or mental health will not be adversely affected. Many states make it extremely hard for women to have an abortion which is not right. States like Oklahoma and Washington women need to go through a lot to actually have an abortion. In South Dakota, for example, a woman may have to travel as far as 400 miles to the one abortion clinic in the state, which is picketed daily and run by a doctor who travels from Minnesota. South Dakota doctors refuse to perform the procedure because they say all other patients would boycott them in the lightly populated, conservative state. In Massachusetts and Rhode Island, an underage woman seeking an abortion must get her parents’ permission. In both Texas and Mississippi, a woman must undergo counseling, wait 24 hours, and if she’s a minor, get her parents’ consent before receiving an abortion. But because of differing state rules for abortion providers, a majority of women in Texas have local access to an abortion clinic, while women in Mississippi have only one clinic, which the state has threatened to shut down. Doctors in states where they are not extreme bans on abortion like New York people who are against abortions are mean people. The people against abortion should mind their own business it is not up to them to say nothing about no one else. George Bush is not a good president so why should people care what he says when the economy is so messed up. He needs to worry about the war in Iraq and the outsourcing of jobs to foreign countries. Most people in the Untied States agrees that there should be no limits on abortion according to The New York Post article entitled “ What is The Big Deal over Abortion”, so who am I to disagree with most of the people in the United States. If most people agree with it how can it be wrong people would not agree to something that is harmful so it makes a lot of sense to agree with them. Celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg and Susan Sarandon came out against restrictions on abortions. Before the infamous abortion walk in Washington D.C. in 2005 many celebrities mad guest appearances. They are against abortion believing women are one step away from going back to the hanger. Of course they do not believe in abortion why else would they do public service announcements against abortions. If those celebrities believes that abortion should be legal since they are women and it affects them the most they are of course right. I have a friend who had an abortion when she was 16 years old. She believes that all abortions are safe and that there is not nothing wrong with having one. She went on to say they are not any side effects of abortions a person can literally go back to work the next days after having one. The writer of the article knows what he is talking about or else he would not write the article. A good place for information is a writer for newspapers because they stay on top of what is going on in the world we are in. I do not believe that women have abortions unless they are in dire need to have one. Women only have abortions when they need to have one and have no other choice but to have an abortion. After a woman has an abortion life for her basically goes back to normal. She can go back to school and/or work and live a normal life. They are not no side effects of abortions at all they are 100% safe so why should there be legal restrictions on abortions?
But anyone who does research and think critically should research both sides of the argument not just one. People against abortion are against it for many reasons/ when taking religion into account Catholics do not believe in abortion. Most Catholics believes that there should be no changes on what God had done to you. So Catholics also do not believe in circumcision and some do not believe in wearing condoms. But different Catholics believe in different things but they all share the no abortion in common. But that is not all I learned on the limitation on abortions. There are women who do not learn from their 1st abortion and go back to have another one sometimes again and again. There are women who have sex and take advantage of abortions. Some women have sex and if they get pregnant they would just have an abortion because it is so easily accessed. According to the Health Bureau 47% of women having an abortion are women who have had abortions previously. That is an actual fact because the health bureau they get their information from the various health clinics around the Untied States. They keep record on stuff like that so they information are accurate. With abortions not all abortion are really safe. For example the abortion pill RU-486 it has a lot of consequences. Raymond, Klein & Dumble, the pro-abortion authors of RU486 Misconceptions, Myths and Morals, (IWT Pub, 1991) stress that RU-486 is not safe for women and list the following contraindications (reasons a person should not take RU-486): under age 18 or over 35; menstrual irregularities; history of fibroids, abnormal menstrual bleeding or endometriosis cervical incompetence, previous abortion, or abnormal pregnancies; pelvic inflammatory disease; recent use of IUD or the pill 3 months. They also cause a lot of side effects like heavy bleeding and migraine headaches. Also a lot of states are working on changing the abortion regulations they have put up. Like New York there are many more doctors performing abortions and more clinics that perform the procedure opening.
After doing extensive research more than what I have previously done I changed my mind with my original conclusions. I came to the conclusion that there are many fallacies not only in my pervious research but on the research I got to back up my argument. I did not take into account where are they statistics coming from and who and where are they performing these statics? For all I know they can just take a random survey in a mall in Texas and conclude from that one survey all Texans feel that way. I did not take into account that not thinking of who they asked in front of whom. Of course if a woman is in front of husband or boyfriend she has a likely chance of saying she is not for abortion and vice versa. But there are many fallacies in my argument as I stated before. One of the first fallacies I noticed was the one about the celebrities. While talking about them I did not take into account that maybe they are being paid for their testimonials which is a fallacy they can just say what they are saying because they are getting paid. Another fallacy with the celebrities is appeal to questionably authority. What do people who act for a living know that much about abortion when they are not doctors. Another fallacy I noticed is Appeal to popularity. I believed just because a lot of people are against something doing not make it true. Just because a lot of people believe it do not make it true just as if everyone believes that pigs fly do not mean they do. The next fallacy I noticed was wishful thinking. When I talked about there are no women having abortions because of medical reasons. Also saying life goes right back to normal after having an abortion. I realized that I was just appealing to emotions another fallacy I did was wishful thinking. In perfect world women only have abortions because they have no choice and life goes back to normal. In actuality it is nothing like that because that decision is the hardest of their lives. Also abortion not only affects the women but the men also. No one considers how men feel about abortion just because they do not carry the baby do not mean it does not affect them in any shape or form. After looking at both sides and thinking critically have changed my original conclusion. I believe there should be limitations on abortions.

Preventing Abortion

There are many issues in America today such as violence, drugs, teenage pregnancy that is on a rise. There is also abortion which is what I chose to write about today due to the fact that it has been such a controversial and important issue of my generation although it has been an ongoing issue for centuries going back to 2600 B.C when the first recipe for an abortion producing drug. Since the 19th century English common law forbade abortion. Abortion prior to quickening (feeling life) was a misdemeanor and a felony after that. In the early 1800s it was discovered that human life did not begin when she “felt life” but at fertilization. In 1869 the British Parliament passed the “Offenses Against the Persons Act” Eliminating the bifid punishment and dropping the felony punishment back to fertilization, so across the middle years of the 19th century each state passed their own laws against abortion. In 1967 the first two states to legalize abortion was Colorado and California and by June 1970 New York passed the first abortion on demand law with a 24 week limit it became the 16th state to allow abortion while the other states were still very restrictive and only allowing abortions for pregnancies due to rape, incest, life of the mother or severe fetal handicap. Abortion seems to be the importance of my generation because there are so many young girls getting pregnant and trying to take the easy way out by having an abortion but little do they know that, that coward way out is sometimes more painful and more risky then actually giving birth and that complications rates of abortion increase with younger teenage women, younger women who carry their baby to term have better births then older women if they get proper care. I don’t believe these girls/women are fully aware of the dangers this can impose on their mind, body, and spirit. Statistics show that one in four of our generation is not living because they were killed before they were born. There are two fractions in this controversy that are apart in their views on abortion whereas the pro-choice movement contends that a women’s right to abortion is absolute, the pro-life choice asserts that a fetus’s right to life is indisputable. Because of this debate the 1973 U.S Supreme Court ruling in Roe VS Wade which legalized abortion based on the 14th amendments right to privacy. Most Americans believe that abortions should be illegal with exceptions of rape and incest but the truth is most abortions are not for either of these two reasons, most abortions are done because of various of other reasons such as the mother being to young and having sex without any knowledge of what there doing, because the father doesn’t want to be apart of her life or the baby’s, or sometimes just because the women/girl doesn’t feel like they can handle it when I believe that god never puts to much on a person he feels like that they can’t handle it. There were other exceptions that were included in the bans on partial birth abortion that was proposed by congress. Abortions have affected many different people in various ways everyone knows someone that has had an abortion rather you know it or not. One in every six women has had an abortion and it has had different affects on them many women that have had abortions have had major psychological problems such as depression and some times called post-abortion syndrome that comes after an abortion, bladder injury that can lead to peritonitis which is an inflamed infected lining of the abdomen, bowel injury. Breast cancer women who have aborted have higher rates of breast cancer later in life and has increased by 50% since abortions have been legalized, Ectopic (tubal) pregnancy which is a pregnancy that occurs outside the uterus. After an abortion you are 8-20 times more likely to have one of these, Effects on future pregnancies like bleeding in the first three months, less likely to have a normal delivery, your next baby will be 3-4 times more likely to die in the first few months of life. As I stated before abortions go back to ancient times and have been practiced by women all over the world using barbaric tools and odd instruments. This is why I believe that it’s a women’s choice to be able to have an abortion under certain guidelines but not because they had a one night stand and didn’t like the guy or just because you think you’re not ready, or because you think you’re parents might kill you, or my figure is going to be ruined if I have this baby. Many women have died t trying to self abort in ancient times and even a few today but its now less common because it was legalized in 1973 some people say that you cant be on both sides its either pro life or pro choice. I can’t really decide because in a way I feel like it’s a women’s choice if she wants to suffer through an abortion but I would never get one!! So what should our government do about this issue?? I believe that the government should keep abortions legal with stipulations on them, along with educating the mothers about the complications that come along with having this procedure. Also start allowing the schools to have sex education classes to help them understand how and when sex is appropriate and if they are already sexually active how to use protection and birth control. A lot of people say it’s the parent’s job to educate their kids about sex but as the old saying goes it takes a village to raise a kid so why shouldn’t the schools be apart of the village?? The government should make it lawful to have an abortion ONLY if theirs a health risk to the mother or the baby, incest victims, and certain aged rape victims which is very rare case that a woman raped has become pregnant. I say certain aged rape victims only because a 9-12 year old girl that has been raped shouldn’t have to endure all that pain at such a young age not knowing how or what this is happening to her. So just to leave you with a few things to think about here are some quotes from the bible: “Ye that loves the LORD, HATE evil…” Psalms 97:10, “Thou shalt not kill.” Exodus 20:13, “As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: Even so thou knowest not the works of GOD who maketh all.” Ecclesiastes 11:5 A regretful abortion: “I am in my early twenties and two years ago, I found myself pregnant. I love children and cannot wait to be a mother…but I was taken up in the idea that I wouldn’t be able to give up my baby for adoption, and I knew I couldn’t raise a child in my situation. I was living with a man I knew I wasn’t happy with and I knew it was wrong, no matter how you look at it. I let him help me to believe that abortion was the best way to deal with the situation. I grew up in a christen home and have always been a pro-life advocate! I thought abortion was the worst thing in the world you could ever do… and you know the sad thing? I still feel this way, only now, I have to live with the regret that I had an abortion. I carried my child in my womb for nine weeks. Do you realize that at nine weeks, you can see the child’s eyes, spinal cord, heart, fingers are starting to form…I have to live with this for the rest of my life. I know there are many people out there that think you can have an abortion and just forget about it the next day. It doesn’t work like that, I have tried so hard to let this go, and know that my child is in heaven and I will eventually meet him/her one day. But right now while I’m here I live with the regret, the guilt, the absolute disgust with myself, and though I’m working on forgiving myself, I know I will never forget!” TO the government, parents, teachers, and counselors educate our young people about using birth control and condoms. If she’s already pregnant please, please let them know about the alternatives to abortion like adoption any thing to save a life there are plenty of loving families that cant have kids that want them. If you think birth control and condoms are to costly their not you can get them free all day long at the local clinics and that’s why we have Planned Parenthood and other places like it that helps with this sort of thing. Most people just don’t know so they need to be educated and this is were the government comes in and this is why one out every four have been killed and abortion will continue to be such a controversial issue.

Abortion is Immature

What would it be like to die so young and so fragile?  What would it be
like to kill something so young and so fragile?  Abortion, in my definition, is
the taking of a life.  Now it is hard for me to sit here and type this paper
when I know good and well that if my daughter or wife were ever raped I would
want whatever was inside of them out -- immediately.  I think that to take the
life of an unborn just because the couple involved were too lazy to use
contraceptives, is immature and quite horrid.  In this informative paper, you as
a reader will come to understand the facts on abortion and then understand where
I stand.

Let us begin.  According to US Abortion data provided in 1995 by Planned
Parenthood, there were 1.8 million first trimester abortions, 180 thousand
second trimester abortions, and about four thousand required Hysterotomies.  Now
according to these figures we, as the United States, killed/aborted 1,984,000
fetus'.  Sure we could keep down the increase in our population at this rate,
but where would we be emotionally?  Speaking from a "my" point of view, I
wouldn't get to far.  I enjoy children profusely and thinking that there are 1.9
million children less in the world every year sends shivers down my spine.  But
I guess you may say that it is not my place to speak.

There are fewer deaths per million abortions than per million births
according to the Planned Parenthood survey of 1995.  There are nine deaths per
million abortion procedures and sixty-three deaths per million births.  Both
complications and the death rate rise with the age of the fetus.  I can
understand that these facts portray a much better picture for abortion than
carrying to term, but what about the pain that the fetus will feel?   According
to pro-choice physicians they believe that a certain connection, synaptic,
necessary to perceive pain, for the fetus, is not formed until the twenty-eighth
week of pregnancy.  Others who are pro-life believe that the fetus can feel pain
as early as the seventh week.  But even though these facts by Planned Parenthood
show a better side to abortion as well, nothing can compare to the guilt of the "
Post-traumatic abortion syndrome" right?  Wrong.

According to Dr. Paul Sachdef, professor of social work at Memorial
University in Newfoundland, Canada, long term guilt or depression was rare in
the seventy in-depth interviews that he conducted of women ages eighteen to
twenty-five, single, and white.  These classifications of the women interviewed
represented the largest group of women seeking abortions.  He also found that
two-thirds of the women used contraceptives rarely or not at all.  Three-fourths
of the women thought they would not become pregnant.  Almost eighty percent "
felt relief and satisfaction" soon after the abortion.  He also found the
elective abortion is much less traumatic for the parent/s than an elective
adoption.  June Scandiffino disagreed with the good doctor's findings.  She
believes that Post-traumatic abortion syndrome does not set in until perhaps
seven years after the abortion.  I would like to believe both findings but I
find that it would be hard not to feel some loneliness and some guilt
immediately after having an abortion. What do you think?

My English professor gave me this assignment, to investigate a subject
of interest that we know little about but have wanted to learn more about and
then present it, but I kind of cheated on it.  I know a good amount about
abortion, emotionally, but I don't know a lot of the facts.  I know what the
main points are and that I always hated when someone would bring up the subject
of abortion and then ask my opinion.  I have a real split opinion.  As for the
percentage of abortions dealing with rape and incest -- go for it.  If my
daughter or wife were ever subject to either one of these I probably would
consent to having an abortion and then going out and killing the bastard who did
it.  As for the percentage of abortions that concentrate around the health of
the fetus/ and finding that the fetus has an irreparable disease or body
malfunction that would mean bringing a neurologically impaired child, or a
deformed child into this world than I would, as well, consider an abortion.
There are probably several other "percentages" that once confronted with them I
would change my feeble mind.

When you hear about all the bombings or incidents of arson on abortion
clinics you, well at least I do, wonder what those people involved with those
incidents would do if confronted with something of the magnitude of rape or
something.  I think a lot of those minds would change.  Because I know that if I
found that I was the product of rape, I probably would want to kill myself.
You?  My final statement is this, "I am usually pro-life and if there is anyway
of keeping and supporting a healthy child than do it.  For new life comes around
only once in a while."
